SPG Triple Up Promotion May 9 to July 31, 2016

Starwood Preferred Guest Triple Up promotion is now available for hotel stays worldwide May 9 to July 31, 2016. Stay 2 nights or more and earn double Starpoints (4 points/$1). Earn triple Starpoints (6 points/$1) for Sheraton brand stays of two or more nights. On top of those standard bonuses is another 1,000 bonus points if your 2-night or longer stay at any Starwood brand includes a Friday or Saturday night (Middle East properties count Thursday or Friday nights as eligible weekend nights for bonus).

These bonuses may be earned unlimited number of times.

SPG Triple Up May 9-July31

One point of caution is a hotel stay combining paid nights with award nights on consecutive nights invalidates the entire stay for promotion eligibility.

If part of my stay was reserved using a Free Night Award or SPG® Cash & Points, does my stay qualify?

No. Stays booked with Free Night Awards or Cash & Points do not count as qualifying stays for this promotion. Even if part of the stay is reserved using an Award and part is paid, the Member will not receive bonus Starpoints for any part of the stay.

SPG Triple Up FAQ

This is a common stay pattern for me to combine high priced nights as a reward stay and lower priced nights as a paid stay on consecutive hotel nights. For promotion purposes this needs to be avoided by having at least one night at a different hotel breaking up the consecutive award nights and paid nights at the same hotel.

Basically, a $150/night Sheraton Hotel stay for a weekend Friday and Saturday earns $300 x 6 points + 1,000 = 2,800 bonus points, in addition to elite bonuses and credit card points you might normally earn for Starwood stays. That looks like a good value offer for SPG compared to what has been around the past year.

SPG Triple Up

SPG members can register by July 17, 2016 to earn bonus points for this promotion and all eligible stays from May 9 will retroactively earn promotion bonuses.

SPG Triple Up Participating Hotels (based on the number of hotels in this list, looks like nearly all hotels worldwide participate. I did not notice any non-participating hotels).
