When I logged into my SPG account today I was greeted with an offer for 7,500 bonus points after three hotel stays between October 1 and December 31, 2015. This is the second time I have received this offer in 2015. This has been a year of burning hotel points for most of my stays. I have not stayed in a Starwood Hotel since January 2015. Looking back over my account shows I had no Starwood Hotel stays in 2014.

- 2,500 bonus points on second stay
- 3,500 bonus points on third stay by December 31, 2015.
One of the aspects of hotel loyalty programs I have noticed over the past two decades is better promotions often come to members who have not stayed at the chain’s hotels recently.
The first promotion I chased in SPG was a 1999 offer for 7,500 bonus points after three stays. I received this same offer at the beginning of May 2015 for 7,500 bonus points with three stays by July 31, 2015. My hotel stays were already booked in other hotel chains for May and summer travel.
Currently, I am in a points earning mode during low season fall and winter travel. I value 7,500 Starpoints at about $150. Considering I can probably book three Starwood stays for less than $300, this is like a 50% rebate on hotel spend.
Last week, I wrote a post stating my current hotel promotion priorities for the remainder of 2015 were 5 nights with IHG for 50,000 points, 2 nights at Choice Hotels for 12,000 points, and one night at a Park Inn for 15,000 Club Carlson bonus points. Choice Privileges offer expires November 11. Club Carlson’s Park Inn, IHG Rewards Club and SPG offers are valid for stays through December 31.

Starwood Hotels moving on up
Starwood Hotels moves up in my hotel chain preference for end-of-year stays. Not sure if I need 11 paid hotel nights with my travel plans over the next two months, but I like the idea of having four hotel loyalty programs offering me a good bonus for the hotel nights I will book. SPG adds another good rebate value opportunity for my hotel spend.
You might want to check your SPG account and play around on the site if you have stayed away from Starwood Hotels for the past year. There might be a pop-up message attached to your own account for a bonus points offer.
