SPG Hot Escapes puts Praha on my mind

SPG Hot Escapes is meager pickings this week with only 60 hotels listed worldwide. I looked at three hotels in California and it’s kind of startling to see Avenue of the Arts Costa Mesa at $90 per night given a 3.0 hotel review rating in guest reviews. This property was previously a Wyndham hotel. Starwood Hotels seems uncertain as to where this hotel fits within its portfolio. The website does not even designate the hotel in any of their hotel brands.

Sheraton Sunnyvale always reminds me of a song I downloaded in the 1990s called Silicon Valley Hell. The hotel looks like an apartment complex in a business park.

Praha on My Mind

Nine years ago Kelley and I spent February Presidents’ Week in Prague, Czech Republic, a Disneyesque kind of city with its extensive baroque architecture from the 17th century. In Prague the city is known as Praha.

Sheraton Prague Charles Square Hotel is $63 this Valentine’s Sunday night and $72 on several other February dates. That looks like one of the best deals to me.

Mauritius

Mauritius has three hotels on SPG Hot Escapes. Le Meridien Ile Maurice at $117 is the most affordable hotel. Typical SPG Hot Escapes shows that as a teaser rate available one night only on March 3. You can piece together a 5-night stay around March 3 with rates from $117 to $142.

But, talk about bait and switch.

The lowest $117 rate for March 3 is actually $135 per night. Other dates I checked were about $18 per night higher than SPG Hot Escapes listed price. Looks like they posted lower room rates in US Dollars on SPG Hot Escapes when the room rates in Mauritius are priced in Euros.

St. Regis Mauritius shows $404 USD rate on SPG Hot Escapes, but the hotel prices at $452 USD on those SPG Hot Escapes low rate dates.
