SPG Stay for More 2x Starpoints + 500 for extended stay

Starwood Preferred Guest is one of the miles and points bloggers darling chains, but I have hardly stayed in Starwood Hotels over the past three years due to continually poor promotions.

SPG Stay for More offers double points for 2 night stays and an additional 500 points for an extended stay three nights or more. Stay for More is another weak bonus points offer from SPG.

Promotion Period: October 1 – December 20, 2015

Registration required by December 6, 2015.

SPG Stay for More 2x points

Two reasons I don’t care for this promotion is you only earn bonus points if you stay two or more nights and then, the bonus points offer is pretty weak.

Spend $100 per night and you only get an extra 400 Starpoints on a 2-night stay for your $200 in hotel spend. That is a low rebate value on $200 hotel spend, worth maybe $10. Stay three nights and you pull in 1,100 bonus Starpoints for $300 in spend. That is only about $25 rebate value in bonus points.

Stay For More Earnings

Assume $300 in base hotel spend for 3-night stay with $100 per night room rate (amount of points earning spend before taxes).

$300 earns 600 points for base member or $300 earns 900 points for SPG Gold or Platinum elite.

Stay for More bonus = 600 bonus points.

Stay for More bonus for 3-nights = 500 bonus points

1,700 Starpoints earned for base member or 2,000 Starpoints earned for SPG Gold elite.

SPG elite member may choose 250 or 500 bonus points per stay as a welcome amenity.

That can be a decent rebate if you are staying at category 1 or 2 hotels. 2,000 Starpoints does not offer much if you are staying at category 3 and higher hotels.

SPG Elite Benefits

When I was a SPG loyalist a decade ago, I regularly averaged 1,000 bonus points per hotel night.

Starwood Hotels is a great program for travelers who are not paying for hotels out of their own pocket. You have to be at least Gold elite to boost your earnings by 1 point/$1 in elite bonus points.

I miss Starwood Hotels, but I am not willing to pay higher room rates to stay in their brands when there are plenty of better hotel stay values easily found in the places I travel.

I registered for SPG Stay for More anyway. There is a chance I will find a good deal for some Starwood Hotel during the promotion period.
