Hyatt Double Points Nov 15-Dec 31 is boring promotion

Yawn! Hyatt comes out with a six-week holiday season Nov 15-Dec 31, 2017 promotion for double points. I have long argued double points promotions favor big spenders.

Double points are a bonus points promotion geared for loyalists. This is not the kind of offer worthwhile to create significant rebate value for the occasional Hyatt guest.

Hyatt double points Nov15-Dec31

Hyatt stays normally earn 5 points per dollar. A $100 room night earns 500 points. Double points means $100 earns 1,000 points. Spend $500 and you earn enough points for a free category 1 hotel night. That could potentially be a 20% to 30% rebate on spend.

Hyatt Standard Reward Nights

Hyatt standard award chart

Hyatt Points + Cash reward nights at category 2 hotels are 4,000 points + $55 and category 3 hotels are 6,000 points + $75.

Hyatt Points Cash

These low category reward nights are the most accessible hotel points redemption opportunities for someone using this promotion to quickly build up points. Again, you can probably find 20% to 30% rebate value on $400 to $600 in spend using points for reward nights.

World of Hyatt

For me, World of Hyatt and Starwood Preferred Guest have become the credit card hotel loyalty programs. These programs have focused their efforts on targeting profitable credit card customers and loyalty high elite member frequent guests with their best promotions focused on achieving a high number of nights in a short period.

The main issue I have with Hyatt the past four years is their room rates are generally not competitive with other deals around for cities I travel, if there is even a Hyatt option.

My focus is on hotel loyalty programs where I get a substantial rebate on hotel spend with low investment. This promotion is weak compared to Marriott Rewards stay 2 times and earn a free category 5 reward night, or IHG Accelerate or Wyndham Rewards 15,000 bonus points for Visa Checkout on 3 stays.

Marriott Rewards: Free night Marriott MegaBonus and weak SPG Fall 2017 offers Sep 12-Jan 15, 2018

IHG Rewards Club: IHG Double Dip Mastercard Priceless Experiences and Accelerate. MasterCard Priceless Experiences earn $50 to $100 debit card with 3 hotel nights/2 stays.

IHG Rewards Club: IHG Accelerate Sep1-Dec 31, 2017 registration open – IHG Accelerate fall 2017 guarantees each member can earn 30,000 bonus points by fulfilling the member’s individually targeted tasks. My offer can be completed with two hotel nights.

Wyndham Rewards: Wyndham Visa Checkout 3 stays earn 15,000 points Nov 1-Feb 28, 2018

Remember the Fall 2016 promotion for 75,000 points after 25 nights? Those were the good ole’ days.

I miss the old Hyatt program.

Yeah but virtually no normal people get 25 nights in a quarter. So at least double points incentivizes leisure travelers.

With that said, Marriott and IHG are far more rewarding and fun

The ‘old’ Hyatt program was the one where half of all hotels in the USA offered 1,000 to 2,000 bonus points per night on virtually any rate, virtually any night. There were loads of category 1 and 2 hotels in those days too.

The 75,000 bonus points promotion for 25 nights in a 3 months is precisely the kind of promotion I saw as the ‘new’ Hyatt program promotion focused only on rewarding top tier frequent guests.
