Loyalty Traveler Analysis

Marriott Rewards MegaBonus is one I will likely complete. I love free night promotions that are achievable with low spend.

Sopot Marriott Resort near Gdansk, Poland is a category 5 hotel I would like to stay and there is Marriott Warsaw too. Marriott Lisbon is another hotel I would keep in mind for my travels.

Since I don’t earn Starpoints from credit card spend, SPG is a program I barely use anymore. Their promotions are weak for low spenders. I think I have only stayed one night at a Starwood Hotels in the past three years. There always seems to be a better hotel deal with some other hotel chain for my travels.

I tried registering and each time I tried a red box popped up saying something like, “You are not registered for this promotion.” Any ideas why that might be?

  • Ric Garrido September 6, 2017

@Christina – No idea on problem.

Work around might be logging into your Marriott Rewards account and there should be listed something like ‘New Promotions’ in the upper right corner with a registration link.

    That is how I registered.

What does this mean: “• Only one room per hotel is counted toward a member’s nights or stay.” Does it mean if I book several rooms in the hotel for one night and they only count as one?

Can I book a room from one hotel for two days to be qualified?

  • Andr September 7, 2017

Are look no further guarantee rates eligible?

  • Ric Garrido September 8, 2017

@Stephen – you only receive one stay credit no matter how many rooms you book.

A ‘stay’ is one night or several consecutive nights.

You can stay a Friday night, check out and check back in for Sunday night at the same hotel and that counts as two stays. I have done this before when staying in one city and pick another hotel to stay Saturday night.

Marriott has properties adjacent to each other in some locations. For example, Morgan Hill, California has a Residence Inn and a Courtyard literally connected to each other.

If I stay Friday night at Residence Inn and Saturday night at Courtyard Morgan Hill, then that counts as two different stays because they are two different hotel properties, whereas two nights at Courtyard is only one stay.

@Andr – Look no further best rate guarantee discount rates count as an eligible hotel stay. I have used these rates dozens of times and always earned promotion credit.

I completed the requirements for the free night in the first week of this promotion. I received no information after that about the “additional offer may be unlocked”, so I sent in an inquiry to Marriott. In a lengthy response outlining what I already knew about earning the certificate, here is what was buried towards the end:

“”””The terms and conditions of the promotion specify:
“• If a member completes two qualifying stays during the promotional period, an additional offer may be unlocked and become available in the members account within 2-3 days after the second qualifying stay.”

I apologize that an additional offer will not be unlocked for all members who earn the free night e-certificate.

The terms and conditions of the Marriott Rewards program and this promotion can be found at the Internet web links provided below:””””””

So all I will receive for the entire quarter, when I over 11 more stays and 25+ nights already booked with another 10 stays and 20 nights left to book, is a certificate and no bonus points.

Pretty disappointed as my total nights stayed so far this year is 119. Makes me wonder which members actually qualify for the additional unlocked offer….
