Choice Hotels Best Rate Guarantee free night approved Expedia claim for Vancouver

Expedia has never let me down when it comes to approved best rate guarantee claims. I probably have 50% or more of Best Rate Guarantee claims denied, yet lower rates found on Expedia have always been approved as far as I recall.

Choice Hotels Best Rate Guarantee free night came through for me in Vancouver at the Comfort Inn Downtown Vancouver when I found a lower rate on Expedia.

This also marks the first time I have been successful with an approved best rate guarantee for a free night at an international Choice Hotel.

Last October I repeatedly tried to get a best rate guarantee claim approved for The Gibson, Ascend Collection in Dublin, Ireland. No luck of the Irish for me.

This past weekend I worked on travel plans for three upcoming trips with Vancouver, British Columbia this month, Orlando Florida and a drive out of Florida one way road trip next month, followed by two weeks in Scandinavia in July, now with a hotel booking objective focused on burning up Club Carlson points for as many Club Carlson Visa Bonus Award Nights I can manage before that benefit disappears for June 1 and later bookings.

Comfort Inn Vancouver Downtown is 10,000 points to April 15, then 25,000 Choice Privileges points

Redeeming Choice Privileges points in Vancouver seems like one way I can cut lodging expenses for seven nights. The only centrally located hotel in Vancouver is the Comfort Inn Downtown Vancouver. Spending 25,000 points is equivalent to a $100 hotel room based on the $160 purchase price I paid for 80,000 points on Friday April 3 during the Daily Getaways sale.

I can’t rationalize spending 25,000 Choice Privileges points for a Comfort Inn when I can book a luxury hotel like The Thief Oslo Norway for 20,000 points for our trip in July.

Then, I was blown away to check published rates and find Comfort Inn Downtown Vancouver is under $70 USD per night after tax for most dates during my trip.

Choice Privileges Best Rate Guarantee Free Night

Choice Privileges requires a reservation confirmation and within 24 hours file a Best Rate Guarantee claim if a lower rate is found on another online travel agency.

Expedia has a 35% discount sale rate with the Comfort Inn Downtown Vancouver. I found an $83 USD room rate on Expedia.com.

After booking the Best Flexible $119 CAD rate on Choice Hotels, I was about to submit my BRG claim, when I stopped and checked the rate on Expedia.ca, the Canadian website for Expedia. Many of my best rate guarantee claims at international properties have been denied for hotel rate displays in different currencies. Expedia.ca and Choice Hotels website both showed rates and the rate difference in Canadian Dollars.

  • Expedia.ca Comfort Inn Downtown Vancouver price = $105 CAD
  • Choice Hotels Comfort Inn Downtown Vancouver = $119 CAD

Claim approved. My $119 CAD Comfort Inn Downtown Vancouver hotel room rate is now a free night.

Triple points with Club Carlson is the next best offer for my April stays in Vancouver that I plan to use, if I can’t find more Best Rate Guarantee claims in Vancouver or Victoria, Canada.

As for Choice Hotels, their Best Rate Guarantee policy terms mean I can’t receive another BRG claim free night until 30 days after my Vancouver stay.

Choice Hotels Best Rate Guarantee Free Night Limit: one (1) free night per name on the Booking and/or household for any thirty day period between Booking check-in dates.

  1. trying to understand the wording that you can not receive another brg until 30 days after your stay — would you be able to book now for a stay 31 days after your approved stay, or do you have to wait until your stay is complete to make a claim?

    Thank you
