Feb 2018 Amsterdam
February tends to be a less than ideal time for sightseeing in so many places around Europe with unpredictable weather and cold snow. In February 2018 we spent a week in Amsterdam revisiting familiar places and hotels, except this was our first time staying at Hyatt Regency Amsterdam.
I took advantage of a November 2017 British Airways sale to buy $416 round trip tickets San Jose SJC to Amsterdam for the February 2018 trip.
- Oneworld LAX, SFO, SJC to Amsterdam, France, Italy, Germany $400s
- Ramada Apollo Amsterdam 15,000 Wyndham Rewards points saved $500 – This stay turned out to be our last killer deal for Amsterdam due to Wyndham Rewards changing GoFast cash and points rates from 3,000 points + a fixed rate ($63eur after tax for Ramada Amsterdam) for an Executive Premier high room category to a floating cash rate equivalent to 65% of the Best Flexible rate. Those $70 Ramada hotel nights in Amsterdam increased to about $170 per night + 3,000 points or else spend 15,000 points for a GoFree reward.

I could write a tourist guide on Amsterdam based on the many months I have spent in the city over the past 20 years. Looking back over my February 2018 articles and notice I hardly wrote about this year’s trip. Spent hours walking around the city. I should put together a slideshow from photos of the city parks and other sights around town. Amsterdam is one of the most livable cities in Europe, but too expensive for my budget to stay more than a week or two at a time.
