United Mileage Plus members can access numerous routes across several countries in Europe for under 10,000 miles one way in economy. There are some basic parameters to know when searching for low cost award travel.

Miles & More member airlines Austrian, Brussels, Croatia, LOT Polish, Lufthansa and Swiss participate in Miles & More. Nonstop flights with any of these airlines to an airport within Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Germany, Poland and Switzerland probably has flight awards for under 10,000 miles on some dates.

Flights departing from Germany have the highest award taxes. Flights departing from Poland have lowest award taxes.

Two tips for finding low award rates like these.

Check a site like FlightConnections.com to find nonstop flights from any airport.

FlightConnections.com shows all nonstop flights from any airport.

Use United 30-Day Calendar to see award rates for several weeks at a time when the date you try does not have a  nonstop flight low award rate.

Miles & More member airlines is just one of the strategic uses of United miles for cheap award travel in Europe. Another strategic use of United miles involves SAS Airlines that I will detail in another article.

United flight awards for 8,800 miles also applies to many other nonstop routes on Star Alliance member airlines to other countries in Europe.

If you know your approximate date, and the city pairs you need to fly between, a good tool that I used for my summer award travel is roame.travel . It compares prices across about 4 programs, including United. It found me some layovers that I would not have otherwise considered visiting again (like HEL).

It’s free to use. And who doesn’t like free?
