InterContinental Hotels Group acquired the small luxury brand Regent Hotels in March 2018. There are currently six hotels open in the brand. Regent Hotels were started in 1970 and in 1992 acquired by the Four Seasons chain. Carlson (Radisson) acquired the brand in 1998 and sold it during their global restructuring phase in 2010 to Formosa International Hotels in Taipei.
IHG says they plan to develop 40 more Regent hotels worldwide. In hotel industry news this week is the new logo for Regent Hotels brand.

Last month when I was planning my summer trip in Europe, Berlin looked like an itinerary stop we were going to make. One of the hotels I found intriguing was the option to use my IHG Rewards Club MasterCard to book a free night at Regent Berlin, currently a 50,000 points standard reward night. Alas, once again, Germany did not make the final itinerary. I think I have shifted our travel plans away from Germany more than any other country in Europe after canceling hotel reservations for three trips in the past three years to visit places like Berlin, Hamburg and Heidelberg.
Anyway, the other Regent Hotel in Europe at Porto Montenegro intrigues me. This is a waterfront hotel in the town of Tivat on the Bay of Kotor. Look up Porto Montenegro on the web and you will find many references to the site as a super yacht sanctuary for billionaire’s boats stored on the Adriatic Sea.
Forbes magazine has an article by Jim Dobson with photos of the Regent Porto Montenegro and other places around Bay of Kotor.
The lowest rate for Regent Porto Montenegro on Saturday July 20 is a 390 EUR / $436.26 USD Mountain View room.
However, using points or Chase free night offers the option for a sea view room with breakfast on an advance purchase room rate at 509 EUR / $569.37 USD or flexible rate 598 EUR / $668.93 USD per night.
That would be a high value use of my Chase Anniversary Free Night.
Porto Montenegro does not seem to be my kind of scene. I saw plenty of yachts in Monaco on my October 2017 trip staying at Marriott Porte de Monaco.
Sure like the idea though of getting around to some of the other towns in Montenegro around Bay of Kotor. Flights from Belgrade BEG to Tivat TIV are currently priced at $83 one way every day of the week on Montenegro Airlines. Belgrade is easy and inexpensive to fly into from many places around Europe.
Here is an 8 minute video of Kotor from Delightful Travelers, vloggers I was not familiar with before this post. I like the clarity of their video and their walking tour around Kotor with a post-hike stop for beer and burgers looks like my style of travel. Those uphill hikes makes this destination seem more suitable for me on a solo trip. Looks hot and busy in summer.
Kotor is also conveniently accessible from Tivat Airport.
