Sopot Marriott Resort & Spa, Poland is a category 5 hotel where we redeemed our winter MegaBonus free night earned from stays at Moxy London Stratford and AC Bella Sky Copenhagen during last December’s trip to Europe. The $300 room night at a beach resort in summer made a good value Marriott Rewards redemption based on the $240 total we spent last winter for our two stays at Moxy London and AC Copenhagen hotels. I actually had Sopot Marriott hotel in mind last winter for a summer beach resort redemption opportunity when I earned the Marriott Rewards free night.
Moxy London Stratford cool space by tube station (Jan 11, 2018).
AC Bella Sky Copenhagen stay earned free MegaBonus night (Jan 21, 2018).
Gorgeous weather and a beautiful location setting with a Superior sea view balcony room upgrade made this hotel Kelley’s favorite of the trip. Sopot is Poland’s premier beach resort location on the Baltic Sea.
Sopot is part of the Gdansk-Sopot-Gdynia tri-city metropolitan area of northern Poland on the Baltic Sea coast. The Sopot beach area developed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries as a spa resort town when the region was part of Germany and known as Danzig. Most of the buildings in Sopot survived World War II, unlike neighboring Gdansk, which was devastated and meticulously reconstructed to resemble its historic former beauty.
Sheraton Sopot is another Marriott brand hotel in the heart of the resort city by the famous wooden pier tourist attraction. We stayed two nights there and a review will be coming. It takes about 15 to 20 minutes to walk between the two hotels along a pedestrian path beside the beach.
Arrival
We arrived by train directly from Gdansk Airport in about 40 minutes via a one stop train transfer at Gdansk Wrzeszcz station. Sopot Wyscigi train station is the closest station to the hotel at 1.4km and about 20 minutes walk. Sopot main railway station is about 2.0km away, but a much better station location if you want taxi service. The taxi ride from Sopot to Gdansk Airport takes about 30 minutes.
Travel is cheap in the tri-city area and a one way train ticket from Gdansk Airport GDN to Sopot is 3.80PLN ($1.04 USD).
We walked along mostly deserted streets through lush green residential neighborhoods as the Poland nation’s hopes and dreams were being shattered in a 2-1 loss to Senegal during Poland’s opening World Cup Russia 2018 football match.
Sopot Marriott Superior Sea View Room
Sopot Marriott has 145 guest rooms. Our room was 307 on the 3rd floor of the 4-floor hotel.
The room was equipped with prepared pool and spa bags.
My only real complaint about the room was the shower bathroom stall doors did not seal and water leaked onto the floor in the corners. Fortunately the water did not flow onto the main walking space in front of the toilet or sink.
Sopot Marriott Pools
The 4th floor has a rooftop deck, pool and bar. The space was baking warm when we checked it out the first night just before 8pm closing time. The following day the pool and deck were in full use.
Sopot Marriott also has a set of indoor pools on the first floor for year round pool access.
Sopot Marriott Lobby Spaces
At the end of the lobby in the photo above are the main hotel bar and Mera Brasserie restaurant at the end. We had a fine dinner at the hotel restaurant of salmon, pork and beer. The dinner meal was about $28 USD.
Kelley said to me she would like to go back and spend a week in Sopot at the Marriott. Unfortunately, I don’t have Marriott points for any more reward nights. But I know a great resort for redeeming category 5 reward nights for when the next Marriott Rewards MegaBonus comes around.
