Loyalty Traveler Analysis:

Essentially you get a 10% bonus on a $100 gift card purchase or you can potentially get even more value, $10 to $25+ in redemption value from 2,500 Best Western Rewards points when redeemed for a free hotel night.

$1,000 in gift cards (made in ten separate $100 purchase transactions to earn 10 gift card or points bonuses) will earn 25,000 points, sufficient for a free night or two at most of the 4,000 Best Western hotel locations. Best Western reward nights start at 8,000 points and go as high as 36,000 points. The vast majority of Best Western hotels are 24,000 points or less. You need to be logged in as a best Western Rewards member to look up how many points are needed at any specific hotel for a free night reward.

This is a great deal for the Best Western Rewards frequent guest and a bonus offer even for the guest planning a one time Best Western stay.

    Downside? It’s a Best Western! Just one step away from Days Inn.

    a little off topic but…
    lots of other blogs are pushing/promoting the AMEX platinum card recently and there is a Hotel upgrade benefit to that, “Fine Hotels & Resorts”. When I went to that site to see what the upgrades were, however, they did not look that attractive. Mainly they offered $100 in massage credits.
    What do you think of the Platinum AMEX?

    Best Western has about the same number of international properties as Hilton, Marriott, IHG, Starwood and Hyatt combined.

    I don’t push any credit cards on Loyalty Traveler blog.

    AMEX Membership Rewards are good for currency exchange between travel programs.

    I know nothing about “Fine Hotels & Resorts” program. Lucky on One Mile at a Time got a great deal at the U.S. Grant recently.

    Thanks. I guess I should have phrased my Q this way: “Why do you think of the value of all of the *hotel features* of the AMEX Plat card?”

    I saw some guys, like Lucky, getting a nice upgrade. Others talk about FREE rooms. But all I see on the FH&R site is a bunch of (IMO) lame massages.

    On another note, you may want to have a look at the LivingSocial getaways. Most of their weekly offers are not chain hotels so you might not be that interested, but some of the deals really seem pretty good.

    I have no knowledge of the hotel features of the AmEx Platinum card. I give credit cards very little attention in my work and life.

    In 3 years of Loyalty Traveler blog posts I have addressed credit card benefits about 5 times.
