Prague appears fond of lighted trees in city squares during Christmas and New Year’s season. A festive Christmas Market in the historic Old Town city square features the twin towers of Gothic Church of Our Lady before Týn as a backdrop.Â
Prague Orloj on the Old Town Hall tower was constructed in 1410 and remains one of the oldest functioning astronomical clocks in the world. The clock tower has been surrounded by construction wrapping for the past year.

TrdelnÃk is a popular sugary pastry sold in winter open fire stalls.
Given all the decorated trees and market stalls at Christmas time, it might be surprising to learn citizens of the Czech Republic self-identify as the least religious Europeans.
Most of the decorations and lights are not particularly religious.
