Last month start-up airline Level started selling tickets for Oakland to Barcelona new service at $150 one-way. Today, I see there are many dates in July and August at $200 one way. The tricky part is finding your way back inexpensively from Europe to California. Mileage awards are one option, however, there is also a $358 round trip ticket on Level for August travel, if you can stay 12 days or more.
The ticket price can be reduced further if you have Avios points to apply to the ticket price.

Two separate one way tickets are $40 less than buying a round trip ticket on these dates.
Level is a low cost carrier operated by Oneworld’s Iberia Airlines. There are charges for checked bag and seat assignments.
I detailed Level bag and seat fees in my article last month.
Loyalty Traveler – On the Level $255 round trip Oakland to Barcelona (March 18, 2017).
There have been some really low round trip fares lately at $380 to $450 on major alliance carriers, where checked bag and seat assignment is free.
Still, this is a good deal fare at $358 round trip, if you can travel light and don’t mind settling for an airline assigned middle seat. I traveled 10 days through Iceland, the Baltics and Sweden this month with only one free carry on bag on three different low cost carriers: WOW, Wizz and Norwegian when the weather was cold and I needed lots of clothing. And I only got stuck in the middle seat on one of four flights, sandwiched between two thin European women. I survived the 11-hour long haul flight home from Stockholm to Oakland stuck in the middle seat with a little, but not significant discomfort.
Traveling to warm Spain in August with only one free carry on bag seems like an easy task to me.
