As I study airfares today during day one of a major USA-wide sale by American, Delta and United to Europe-wide destinations, I finally got around to looking at my home base of Monterey, California. Tickets to Europe for travel from late August to March 2017 are on sale today across the USA for about $500 to low $700s. Even better than the fares are the expansive list of routes. The fares are low, but not deeply low for major European airports. The exceptional part of this Europe fare sale is the number of smaller regional airports across Europe on sale from so many smaller regional airports and hubs in the USA with low fares across different alliances.
Fare Alert California Regional Airports big discounts to Europe today
Today is one of those rare days when you can book a ticket to Europe from California regional airports like Monterey, Santa Barbara, Ontario, Santa Ana, Oakland, Sacramento and places for only a few dollars more than LAX and SFO ticket prices. Most of the year a ticket from an airport like Monterey tacks on $100 to $400 to an international ticket to Europe.

American Airlines out of SFO is $731 round trip on a one-stop via DFW for these same Oct 4-11 dates.

I found several examples where the price from the regional airport like Orange County, Santa Barbara and Monterey was lower than the ticket price out of LAX or SFO.
