DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Centraal Station is currently the largest hotel in city center Amsterdam at 553 rooms. The hotel is a five minute walk from the train station and provides a convenient location for city tram transportation since all lines run to and from Centraal Station.
DoubleTree bicycles available for rent.
The hotel is 11 floors with the SkyLounge on the top floor offering one of the best views of Amsterdam. The hotel has a unique shape creating room types with city views to the south and views of the Ij port area to the north.
The hotel lobby holds the reception desk and also on the ground floor are the Eastwood Beer & Grill restaurant.
The Hilton HHonors Executive Lounge is located on the ground floor and a good place for people watching as pedestrians and bicyclists pass by the large glass windows. Breakfast is served daily from 6:30-10:30am Monday-Friday and 7:00 to 11:00am Saturday-Sunday. There is also a two hour evening drinks and appetizers service from 6:00 to 8:00pm, Monday-Sunday.
Lobby chandelier in reception desk area.
Amsterdam’s central library is located about five minutes walk from the DoubleTree. This area east of Centraal Station was developed in the past decade. The library has 10 floors and 600 internet accessible computers. The library is open 10am-10pm seven days a week.
Openbare Bibliotheek Amsterdam (Public Library Amsterdam) is the building in distance with vertical lighted sign. DoubleTree is nearest building. The ship shaped building in distance is the NEMO Science Center, one of Amsterdam’s many museums. I was told the pagoda building is a good Chinese restaurant.
The reason I mention the library is the public lounge in the DoubleTree has a library partnership and there are shelves of books guests can access in the hotel. This area of the hotel was so popular that I could not take a photo without a crowd of faces.
Fitness Center is located on Floor –1. There is no natural light, but the sizable room offers a selection of equipment.
Standard Guest Room at DoubleTree Centraal Station
First thing that caught my eye walking into the room was the Mac computer on the desk.
Nice feature to have a computer already in the room. The city view is another great feature of the room.
Beneath the lamp is the refrigerator. It is only stocked with two bottles of water, leaving the space open for guest use. I find that commendable. There are also ice machines on guest floors.
The bathroom only had a shower stall. Small, but adequate.
SkyLounge
The 11th floor SkyLounge has the WOW factor for the hotel. The bar was packed on a rainy day at 5:30pm. The views looked great, even in the rain. There is a large outdoor deck during better weather days.
The empty room behind the SkyLounge sign is for private rentals. There were probably 100 people behind me filling the rest of the SkyLounge bar space.
Even if you don’t stay at the DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Centraal Station, I think a visit to the hotel SkyLounge is worth an excursion.
