I found some surprisingly low $139 to $159 rates on December dates this week and next.

Winter Haven has $159 rates this week and next, but offers rates 10% lower with AAA. Blue Moon Hotel has $139 rates this week and $159 next week. These rates are lower than AAA rates.
AAA rate on this date is $161 and the only lower rates are for Florida residents.
There are some good deal December rates before Christmas. January rates go up about $100 per night and February rates are in the $300s.
I visited the Blue Moon Hotel in December 2012 and it looked like a laid back place in the heart of Miami Beach action.
