Choice Privileges Triple Points Nov 19-Jan 15 is good value

Choice Privileges triple points for stays over the next two months from Thursday, November 19 through January 15, 2016 is a new promotion giving 30 points per $1 at most Choice Hotels brands. Triple points is a promotion I favor more than their typical Choice Privileges promotion for 8,000 total points after two stays.

An interesting observation is the Choice Hotels brands in the higher tier sort of align alphabetically top down from Ascend Collection to Sleep Inn for the brand’s hotel market segment.

30 Points per $1 Choice Hotels brands

  • Ascend Collection
  • Cambria Suites
  • Clarion Hotels
  • Comfort Inn
  • Comfort Suites
  • Quality Inn
  • Sleep Inn

15 Points per $1 Choice Hotels brands

  • Econolodge
  • MainStay Suites
  • Rodeway Inn
  • Suburban

Loyalty Traveler Choice Privileges Triple Points Promotion Analysis

Assume $100 hotel rate per night at Clarion Hotel x 2 nights.

$200 in Choice Hotels spend x 30 points = 6,000 Choice Privileges points.

Two stays at $200 each spending $400 during the promotion period earns 12,000 points in Choice Privileges. This makes this a better Choice Privileges promotion than the recently ended 8,000 total points after two stays for most travelers. This promotion favors high spenders, which is a good thing to be when staying at Choice Hotels. The $100 hotel night in an upper midscale hotel like Clarion or many Comfort Inn hotels compared to many of the economy market segment $50 hotel nights available at an Econolodge or Rodeway Inn around the USA with Choice Hotels.

Value of Choice Privileges points

I place the value of 12,000 points as a $200 hotel room night when I think about my hotel stay in September at Clarion Collection No 13 in Bergen, Norway. Clarion Collection Hotel Temperance in Malmo, Sweden is a hotel with $150 rates or 8,000 points hotel nights through Choice Privileges. Both of these hotels also include free breakfast and dinner.

The reason I like this Choice Privileges offer is I see $400 in hotel spend (before tax) earns 12,000 points with this triple points promotion. Based on my Choice Privileges hotel redemptions in Denmark, Norway and Sweden for nearly 30 award nights in the past 15 months, lets me value 12,000 points as equivalent to about $200 in hotel room rates as hotel award nights in Scandinavia. Summer season in Scandinavia brings high hotel rates and rates of $150 to $200 per night for any lodging is common in many places. Choice Privileges points are one of the best ways to make lodging in Scandinavia affordable.

Choice Privileges is currently offering 30% bonus points for purchases through November 24, 2015. Maximum purchase is $550 for 65,000 points.

Damn! I just checked in at a Choice hotel today and am staying for 30 nights–long enough to rack up some major points with this promo. Do you know of any way to get the triple points to apply even though I’ve already checked in?

Sounds like Choice points can not be transferred to airlines miles in their website?

  • Ric Garrido November 17, 2015

@Brandon – talk to the hotel manager and you might be able to work out an arrangement where you can break your current stay and start a new stay on the 19th.

@Charles – That question took up 30 minutes of my day.

Choice redesigned their website in 2015 and it looks like the function for points transfers to airline miles has not returned yet. The link states the function will be coming soon.

    Hi, Ric:

Thank you very much. I did call them today and transferred my Choice points to Aeroplan, was told it takes 4-6 weeks. Is really that long? Do I catch the promotion?
