British Airways Business Class tickets to Europe from west coast $500 to $1,225

Two threads of USA to Europe travel action are hitting the miles and points community today with British Airways low fares allowing the purchase of round trip Business Class tickets from as low as $1,225 or so from California, and even under $500 with 30,000 Avios for Thanksgiving and trips into next summer’s travel season. Simultaneously, AAdvantage Business Class award seats using miles have opened up with widespread availability for travel into next summer.

October 15 Update 3:00pm Pacific: Looks like this deal is now $400 more with higher BA ticket prices actually around $2,000 for SFO departures before AARP discount and Avios points discount. There is now a monthly calendar of low fares on the website. Prices from New York JFK are still $1,600 base fare for Business Class before discount options.

The British Airways Business Class October 15-16 two-day sale is the real deal, if $1,225 in spend is within your budget or you have Avios for a deeper discount than flying economy class.

    I am suspecting that some of these $1600 (before $400 AARP discount) tickets are glitch.

    I made two bookings for my family of 4 only because I wanted to claim the $250 Citi Prestige airfare credit on mine and wife’s prestige cards but was in hurry, I made a mistake and booked return trip on 1 booking a day late. I called BA and try to make the change or cancel… put on hold for over 25 minutes and was told that the price I paid is lower than it should be and they are investigating it right now. so I went back to the ba.com through AARP link again and new prices is all $2015 as they advertised instead of $1619…

    cancel within 24 hr. The agent was willing to wave any change fee because the booking was made only an hours ago but that was before they realize the price discrepancy. Other than that, it’s normal change fee of $500 per ticket I believe.

    Just checked fares again and now coming up $2010 base price for SFO-LHR in December with a monthly calendar stating lowest fare. Looks like the earlier $1,625 fares are not around now. Prices from JFK are still around $1610, so it looks like BA may have inadvertently priced all USA airports with JFK prices, or sales were so good they discontinued the lower fares from west coast airports.

    I think they’ve disallowed stacking the $400 AARP discount. I booked a ticket for myself this morning and it worked, but just booked another for my wife on the same flights/days, and it’s the same price with our without AARP login. Price is also higher than the price this morning, but it’s still a screaming deal, especially with 30k Avios option. Averaged out we’re paying $650 each, really can’t beat that no matter what!

    Whoops, I stand corrected. $400 stacking does still work, but the cheapest fares seem to be gone. Let’s hope those weren’t a “mistake” and turn out dis-honored by BA.

    I just looked again, w/o the AARP login it’s $2016 now. Not sure what happened before to make me think otherwise; I guess I confused myself with too many open browser tabs! =)

    I saw HNL-LAX-LHR-HEL return for $1450 on AA. Now about $2,000. I was thinking of using a SWU for F so I put one on hold. I always enjoy reading the comments for what other people were able to do with this promo.
