IHG Reel Summer promotion email today pissed me off

The IHG Reel Summer promotion email announcement today pissed me off when I could not register for the offer through the link provided. Then, IHG emailed again five hours later with a 500 bonus points apology.

Reel Summer is the new IHG Rewards Club global promotion launched today. Stay 3 nights from May 15 to September 2, 2014 and earn 5,000 bonus points. I received an email at 1:30pm today California time.

IHG Summer reel email

Simple and easily achievable bonus offer for summer travel all over the globe and three nights earn 5,000 bonus points. These are sufficient points for a free PointBreaks award free night at 5,000 points.

I clicked the “Register Now” button.

I clicked the “Register Now” button again for promotion code 7093.

IHG Rewards Club promotion registration denied.

“The code you entered is invalid for your membership. Please check the qualification requirements for your country, region or program. For further assistance please visit the IHG Rewards Club Customer Service Center page.”

After a couple more tries, I gave up trying to register for the promotion. I was annoyed at IHG Rewards Club for somehow messing up my promotion registration email.

At 6:30pm another email from IHG Rewards Club arrived.

Interesting to note that my offer was for four nights rather than three.

I got 10k points for 12 nights. I’ve heard on FT of promos up to 15k for 18 nights.

I also had the registration issue. And it’s happened before on previous promotions. This is the first time they’ve admitted their error.

10K for 8 nights. Also got the 500. Had not attempted registration.

Mine is 10000 for 7 nights. After collecting 194,800 total for the two previous Big Win promos. I’ll definitely be sitting this one out!

I also got 10k for 12 nights. Registered fine, no 500 bonus points.

Is this for 3 consecutive night stays or just 3 single nights during the qualifying peridion.

HOLD THE BOAT GUYS. This is one of the classic IHG promo sign ups. I got 15 for 15k which I will have a hard time getting with some recent travel changes. Then I saw this and tried to register for the 3 night promo and I couldn’t because I already jumped at the 15 night one. Make sure to research the best promo code for your needs or what you can meet before you sign up.
    15 nights for 15k code is 7047
The 3 night for 5K posted here is 7093

So this is just the standard ‘Stay X Nights and Earn Y Points’ quarterly code. I would have likely only signed up for 7093 three nights anyway.

This is the first time I recall actually receiving the email offer. Usually I just go to the FlyerTalk thread and sign up for one of the codes. Usually I sign up for the lowest number of nights or stays. IHG must have my hotel travel pattern pegged.

When I saw my “Stay 4. get 5000” offer, I thought to myself “How miserly!” 5000 points is worth about $40.

Compare this offer to Big Win or other recent offers, and this is the worst IHG offer I’ve seen in a long time.

  • I went to an IHG ReelSummer party last night. It was a great event, and the items in the goody bag….
