Marriott Rewards has some very consumer-friendly policies which probably helps the program consistently earn hotel loyalty program of the year (Americas) in award contests like the Freddies. 2007 is the last time Marriott Rewards did not win hotel program of the year in the Freddies.
Marriott Rewards Elite Buy Back with points is one of the program features that excels in comparison to most hotel loyalty programs where you make a quick descent on elite landing when your calendar year stays fall short of your previous year.
Marriott Rewards elite buy back offer for 2014.
Reinstate Your Level
As one of our valued Elite members, we understand that your travel needs vary from year to year and that occasionally you might not have the required number of stays to maintain your Elite status. We know how important Marriott Rewards benefits are to you – so we are offering you a limited-time opportunity to buy back your status for 2014 using points that you may have already earned.
Here’s all it takes to reinstate your level:
Points required to buy back Platinum status – 40,000
Points required to buy back Gold status – 25,000 Points required to buy back Silver status – 7,500Remember, if you don’t have enough points in your account, you can always buy up to 50,000 points every year.
This offer is valid through April 1, 2014 and allows only one level of buyback, which must match the Elite level you enjoyed in 2013.
Once your status has been reinstated, Marriott Rewards will send you a new valid membership card for your restored Elite level.
The price to buy points is $12.50 per 1,000 points. That is not too bad to get Silver elite, but $312.50 for Gold or $500 for Platinum is a chunk of change.
Assuming you have the points already, then these are great offers. One year of Gold elite with 25% elite bonus points and other elite benefits is a great trade for 25,000 points considering that is the price one free night at a category 5 hotel.
Reinstating Platinum elite at $500 or 40,000 points is also a decent deal if your travel will pick up in 2014. Or even if your paid travel days will not resume in 2014, I would consider this option if I had hundreds of thousands of points to redeem and wanted a year of vacation travel with better room upgrade potential as Marriott Rewards Platinum. That could easily offer far more than $500 in value.
