A chance to win 100,000 points is much more useful information for Loyalty Traveler. The sweepstakes is in support of the current global promotion ‘Stay 3 Nights, Get 1 Free’ where members earn 38,000 bonus points after 3 nights in Carlson brand hotels worldwide from January 6- April 13, 2014. Hotel nights do not need to be consecutive.
38,000 points are sufficient to book a category 4 hotel in their six category system. 100,000 points are sufficient for two nights at the top category 6 hotels. And with the Club Carlson Visa card one night free benefit on a reward stay, you can get even more free nights with Club Carlson points.

I did not remember if I had signed up for the Club Carlson global promotion. Club Carlson reminded me I had when I re-registered for Stay 3, Get 1 Free this morning,
My general rule is to sign up for promotion offers as soon as they open for registration. One time, in either 2012 or 2013, I stayed at a hotel and after check-out I learned that I had never signed up for the promotion bonus I was trying to earn.
