Airline Frequent Flier Programs Buy Points Hotel Loyalty 2013-Q1 promotions Wyndham Hotels Wyndham Rewards

Buy Wyndham Rewards points $440 = 20,000 miles in Feb 2013

Wyndham Rewards has the best basic points-to-miles exchange of any hotel loyalty program. During the month of February Wyndham Rewards will add 25% more points when buying points at $11 per 1,000 points. This means $22 buys 2,500 points. Wyndham Rewards points-to-miles exchange rate for most airline partners is equivalent to 2,500 points = 1,000 airline miles.

  • Wyndham Rewards members can normally buy 40,000 points in a calendar year.
  • Wyndham Rewards points sell for $11 per 1,000 points.
  • Wyndham Rewards offers 25% bonus for points purchases in February 2013.
  • In February 2013 a Wyndham Rewards member can buy 50,000 points.
  • 50,000 Wyndham Rewards points converts to 20,000 airline miles in most airline partner programs.
  • Spend $440 for 50,000 Wyndham Rewards points and exchange into 20,000 frequent flyer miles.
  • Note: Most points-to-miles transfers are only available at 8,000 points = 3,200 miles; 17,500 points = 7,000 miles; 30,000 points = 12,000 miles.
  • You will only be able to transfer 49,500 points for 19,800 miles (8,000 points x 4 = 12,800 miles  + 17,500 points = 7,000 miles for 19,800 miles in most programs) 48,000 points for 19,200 miles,  if you have no other points in your account. 100,000 miles would cost you $2,000 – not a good deal at all

The trick is to gamble on a near-future hotel transfer bonus. US has done 50% to 100% bonuses on hotel transfers before, although it didn’t happen last year.

@mileswhore – Some people would find 100,000 miles for $2,000 to be a good deal.

But you can only get 20,000 miles through the Wyndham buy points deal so it is only a good deal if 20,000 or fewer miles get you to a high value award ticket.

Say I have 50,000 Wyndham points. That is good for two Wyndham hotel nights in many places. I pay $440 to buy 50,000 Wyndham points and I can get 40,000 AA miles with my 100,000 Wyndham points.

I would find $440 a good investment to score a $1,000 award ticket to Europe for $440 using the Wyndham points I already had.

Actually, you can exchange 49,500 points for 19.800 miles.

    4x 8,000/3,200 = 32,000 points for 12,800 miles
    1x 17,500/7,000 = 17,500 points for 7,000 miles

If you have 2,500 points already you can add 50k and then do 3x 17.5k points for 21k miles.

I would consider transfers to Frontier if you have their branded MC; milevalue just posted about the card’s companion award benefit that makes even domenstic awards attractive.

Needless to say, I will be taking advantage of the promo.
