Given low rates at many hotels during the holidays of Thanksgiving and Christmas and a drop-off in travel during the first half of December means the potential to find low rates at Choice Hotels. Keep in mind that room rates must be at least $40 per night to qualify for Choice Privileges promotions.

Choice Hotels stays earn 10 points per $1 and a 3-night stay will earn more than 6,000 points after the 5,000 points bonus. This is significant since Choice Privileges reward nights can be booked for 6,000 points + copay of $8.50 per 1,000 points needed for a standard reward night.

Choice Hotels – Via Montes Hotel 6,000 points+$85 reward rate Feb 21

Via Montes Hotel, Ascend Collection in San Bruno, California is a convenient hotel to SFO two miles away. This hotel has a King Room with Balcony for 16,000 points as a standard reward night. Choice Privileges sells points for $11 per 1,000 points. The room would cost 6,000 points + $110 if you bought points through a Points.com purchase.

A cheaper alternative is booking a Points Plus Cash reward night for 6,000 points + $85. The remaining 10,000 points to fulfill the 16,000 points standard reward price are sold at time of booking for $8.50 per 1,000 points needed.

Points Plus Cash reward nights are a way to conserve Choice Privileges points or spend fewer points per reward night when you only have 6,000 points and not enough for a standard reward night. Any hotel available for a standard reward night using points should also be available for 6,000 points + $8.50 per 1,000 points for remaining points needed. These bookings have the same cancellation terms as Best Flexible Rate for the hotel. If you cancel a Points Plus Cash reward booking during the free cancellation period your account is credited with the points you purchased.

These are the kinds of values one can find with Choice Privileges points, which makes today’s Choice Privileges points offer for 5,000 bonus points with a 3-night stay by December 31, 2022 a promotion to consider.

The promotion terms are not clear as to whether stays at international properties qualify for this offer. However, the promotion page does state “Get 5,000 bonus points when you stay 3 or more nights at Choice Hotels® locations across the country!” I guess this can be interpreted as to stays only in the USA.
