This article compares the price in points for a 5-night hotel stay in Amsterdam November 15-20, 2022 for 23 hotels among nearly 50 hotels in Amsterdam and around Amsterdam Schiphol Airport in Best Western Rewards, Hilton Honors, World of Hyatt, IHG One Rewards, Marriott Bonvoy and Radisson Rewards hotel loyalty programs.
Only hotels showing at least a $200 savings compared to paying the best flexible cancellation rate are included based on the lowest rates available to buy hotel points at discount prices during periodic sales throughout the year. More than half of the hotels surveyed for Amsterdam did not offer a $200 savings for a 5-night stay in this survey of November 15-20, 2022. The good news is 23 hotels in six different hotel loyalty programs offered a discount greater than $40 per night on a 5-night stay when paying for your hotel room using points.
There are multiple opportunities periodically throughout the year to buy points at a discount rate for hotel loyalty programs. U.S. Travel Association’s Daily Getaways offers provided discounts on points with Best Western, Hilton, Hyatt to a very limited extent, IHG and Wyndham Rewards points. Marriott offered 20% discount gift cards.
Hilton, Hyatt, IHG, Marriott, Radisson and Wyndham offer bonus points or discount prices during periodic buying points promotional offers during the year.
I find researching cities I’d like to visit and figuring our which hotel points offer the most value for my travel plans gives me a list specific hotels I keep in mind when thinking about buying hotel points and where to redeem them.
A snapshot of one city like Amsterdam for one set of dates is not enough data to make definitive comparisons between better and best hotel loyalty programs, but it is a start. Creating a thorough comparative analysis requires an enormous amount of data points.Â
Shifting the dates in Amsterdam by a couple of weeks might result in very different numbers. A hotel chain that does not rank highly in this Amsterdam snapshot might be more favorably situated in a comparison of hotel rates on other dates and in other cities.Â
The use of a 5-night stay gives the most favorable redemption conditions to Hilton and Marriott with their 5th night free rewards. Hilton Honors members must be at least Silver elite to redeem for a 5th night free award. IHG ranks even better than shown below if considering only a 4-night stay for members holding the IHG Chase Premier Mastercard with 4th night free benefit. Best Western, Hyatt and Radisson do not offer a free night on extended reward stays.Â
While I calculated rates for 49 chain hotels in Amsterdam and Amsterdam Schiphol Airport I have only included hotels below where points save more than $200 for a 5-night flexible cancellation stay Tuesday, November 5 – Sunday November 20, 2022.
