There have been some very low airfares this week for travel in summer and Christmas season 2020. One of these deals is TAP Portugal San Francisco SFO to London Gatwick LGW one way tickets priced as low as $119 for several dates from Sep to Dec and as low as $205 one way for some dates in July. The return flight is quite a bit more in summer at upper $400s and $500s, until late August when LGW to SFO drops to $236 one way.

Travel from Sep to Dec has SFO-London ticket prices around $310 round trip.

Airline prices fluctuating like Dow Jones this week

Yesterday I spent most of the day studying airfare and planning travel. I was seeing unprecedented low fares for summer travel when I casually checked dates in June and July. First thing in the morning I had a ticket purchase in mind for San Francisco to London for June-July travel at $600 round trip with United. Tickets were even lower at $580 with American. As I planned dates for my itineraries for summer and winter holiday season, the United fares increased about 25% to $750 for dates I wanted. American was still low, but I am Star Alliance Gold and preferred ticketing United. A couple hours after United raised ticket prices, American tickets went up too for June departures.

But July still has some highly unusual low ticket prices for mid-summer travel from California to Europe. There are still deals out there for summer travel. Simply not the deals that fit into my planned itineraries. London, Dublin, Paris and Barcelona are currently low fare summer gateways.

Basically I have my mind set on picking up airline tickets for summer and Christmas travel. Besides coronavirus, one of my concerns booking travel are reduced flight schedules by airlines changing a well-planned itinerary. The other concern is airline failure like UK airline FlyBe yesterday with the uncertainty in the travel environment. Coronavirus concerns kept me from booking a real deal for travel from Monterey to Montreal last week at $185 round trip.

There are some good deals to be found for summer travel. I was a potential buyer yesterday for United SFO to London at $600 round trip in June, but I won’t buy at $750. The state of the airline industry at the moment is volatile airfare pricing. I have a feeling prices will drop again for USA – Europe summer travel in coming days. When the next price drop happens, I have my dates planned out for booking 2020 summer and December holiday travel.
