IHG Feb 15-May 15 up to 4x points another weak promotion (unless you stay lots of nights)

IHG Rewards Club has unveiled their new promotion to earn up to 4x points for stays from February 15 to May 15, 2020, but the registration page is not yet operating correctly. This offer is structured based on total nights completed and differs from their last 4x points promotion based on stays. The previous offer that ended Jan 31 earned double points on second stay, triple points on third stay and 4x points on all stays from the 4th stay. The new offer requires 15 nights to reach the 4x bonus points level.

IHG Rewards Club – Earn up to 4x bonus points

  • Nights 2-5 = 2x bonus points (20 points/$1 at most brands).

Analysis:

This promotion primarily benefits the most frequent guests of IHG Rewards Club. The return of investment on hotel spend through a rebate in IHG points is nothing special for this offer for low rate spenders like me with few nights at hotels with rates over $100 per night. For example, I spent yesterday planning a potential trip to Spain where I can pick up 6,000 bonus Accor ALL points for $400 with three 2-night stays Feb 14 to June 7, 2020. These points have a fixed value of 120 EUR/$132 in hotel credit.

$400 in spend at Holiday Inn Express hotels for 6 nights during this time period will earn about 8,000 bonus points with this current IHG offer, worth $40 to $50. Finding $65 hotel nights with IHG is a difficult find at USA hotels.

This latest IHG promotion does not motivate me to focus on IHG hotel stays this quarter for my hotel spend.

    Hilton, here I come.

I’ll disagree Ric. For people with few nights, sure this isn’t much, but for people with a lot of up coming nights this is big.

Let’s see if Hilton, Hyatt or Marriott offer anything better. Hilton’s 2000 points per _stay_ promo is way worse than IHG’s.

    OFF topic –

Check out the TAP sub $ 400 RT in late apr. early may for sfo-lis-fco or ory. I think you may be able to take an additional 20% off with code SPRING20. Also 1-ways for as low as $162 over before disc.

I’m a Spire elite member with the premier IHG card. I’m going to stay throughout the length of the promotion. How many points from all of the different avenues should I get? Thank you.

@James – looked at that deal last month.

@Justin-Depends on how many stays and how much money you spend. As a Spire member you should earn plenty of points. This can be a great offer for a traveler all-in with IHG.

My analysis is focused on spending less than a $1,000 with at least four stays, no credit card spend and no status or maybe IHG Rewards card and Platinum status.

Spend based promotions (double, triple points offers) improve the more you spend.
