Buy Points Wyndham Hotels Wyndham Rewards

One good reason to buy Wyndham Rewards buy point 40% bonus to Jan 13

Today I spent a couple hours studying Wyndham Rewards opportunities for high value points redemptions based on the Wyndham Rewards buy points 40% bonus points promotion through Jan 13, 2020. This is the first time I recall Wyndham Rewards offering discount points for sale through their own website.

40% bonus points on top of the regular $13 per 1,000 points purchase price drops the cost to $9.29 per 1,000 points. Wyndham Rewards members can buy a maximum 63,000 points ($585) during this sale.

Wyndham Rewards GoFree reward nights categorize nearly 9,000 hotels worldwide in three groups at 7,500 points, 15,000 points and 30,000 points.

Wyndham Rewards GoFree Reward Nights cost when buying points at $9.29 per 1,000 points.

Tier 1 = 7,500 points = $69.68

Tier 2 = 15,000 points = $139.35

Tier 3 = 30,000 points = $278.70

My analysis only looked at Tier 1 and Tier 2 hotels. I don’t care about any 30,000 points Wyndham brand hotels since that is far more than I am willing to spend on a hotel reward night.

Wyndham Rewards Program Change: Wyndham Rewards used to offer suites at standard reward rates at some hotels. While I still see some higher category rooms available at hotels for reward nights, I did not find any suites available as GoFree reward nights at hotels where I used to regularly see suites offered for points as recently as April 2019.

The basic idea here is any Tier 1 hotel at 7,500 points with a posted room rate of more than $70 offers a room rate discount by redeeming points purchased at $9.29 per 1,000 points. You can argue $80 after tax since a paid night earns a minimum 1,000 points, so paying for a room keeps 8,500 points in your account. 8,500 points cost $79.

Any Tier 2 hotel with a room rate over $140-$150 will be cheaper to book buying Wyndham Rewards points during this sale.

There are some surprisingly good hotel deals to be found among Wyndham’s 9,000 hotels worldwide for reward nights using points you can buy at a discount for the next 5 weeks.

Club Wyndham Canterbury at San Francisco

April 6-9, 2020  – 3 night stay – One Bedroom Suite = 45,000 points = $418.05 to buy points through Jan 13.

3-night advance purchase nonrefundable rate = $1,754.91.

Buy points savings = $1,336.86

This is not a needle in the haystack find. I found at least a dozen hotel deals in Europe, Australia and North America. When it comes to buying hotel points, I simply need to convince myself that I can find a good deal in a place I’d like to travel. Honestly, San Francisco does not excite me for hotel deals. A Black Sea resort in Romania, an adventure destination like Queenstown, New Zealand or historic Hanseatic League cities on the Baltic are destinations that excite me.

Wyndham Rewards points can provide a nice hotel discount rate that have me excited to finally see Wyndham Rewards offer a buy points discount promotion.

lukewarm deal. Don’t even know if i should categorize it as such. Wyndham lost its appeal when it devalued last.

Easy to dismiss this sale, but for dates I’m looking at in January for San Francisco, the points purchase cost of about $140 is a third of the rack rate. As with housing costs, hotel rates in San Francisco now can be outrageous–I tried staying there two weeks ago but because of a Salesforce conference that filled up hotel rooms, rates inside the city were uniformly, even at lousy hotels, over $400. I don’t earn in Wyndham anymore and agree that, along with Best Western, this isn’t a program I’d earn points with because I don’t find a good return in spending nights with either program, but it’s always a great idea to compare actual hotel rates in an area that interests you with the amount you could spend buying points–there could be a significant savings.

A shout out to another program I know Ric likes–Choice Privileges–where I just spent 16K per night on a two-bedroom suite at the Kohea Kai Resort on Maui. Per night cost for the same accommodations at the same time: $560. It’s certainly not the most luxurious place on the island (I drove the ten miles down to Wailea to see some of the hotels and condos there that I’m sure put the Kohea to shame but I also don’t doubt that those accommodations start at twice the price), but my group was very happy with the place given its size, location directly across a two-lane road from the beach with no buildings inbetween, and the price–resort fee only).

Never blow off a program entirely–that’s one of the best lessons Ric teaches us through this site. Find the values and exploit them.

Thank you for the tip, Was able to book four nights at the Donatello in San Francisco. Initially, i wanted to book the Canterbury to get a suite but for some reason the website kept erroring with a message about maintenance issues even when i tried with several navigators and the mobile app.
