United buy miles and good value Radisson Rewards to United miles hotel points transfer promotions

Radisson Rewards and United Promotions

Two offers available through late November provide an opportunity to turn Radisson Rewards points into United miles at a rate close to 5 Radisson points = 1 mile. The normal exchange rate is 10 Radisson points = 1 United mile.

Promotion 1: Radisson Rewards will add 50% United miles for points-to-miles exchanges. The normal rate of exchange at 2,000 Radisson points = 200 United miles is increased to 300 miles for points-to-miles transfers through November 26, 2019.

Promotion 2: United Mileage Plus adds 30% bonus miles for hotel points-to-miles transfers made through November 30. This offer allows up to 25,000 bonus miles. Registration required.

These two offers can be combined. Assume 10,000 points transferred to United Mileage Plus. During the Radisson Rewards 50% bonus miles promotion 10,000 Radisson points = 1,500 United miles.

After Radisson Rewards transfers your 1,500 miles to United, then United Mileage Plus adds 30% bonus miles for an additional 450 United miles.

10,000 points = 1,500 United Miles (Radisson points-to-miles) + 450 bonus miles (United 30% bonus miles).

10,000 Radisson Rewards points = 1,950 United miles.

This looks like a good value overall in the hotel points-to-miles exchange scenario, if you have more need for United Mileage Plus miles rather than Radisson Rewards points.

Promotion 3: United Mileage Plus buy miles promotion for 40% and 85% bonus mile through Nov 5 is another offer you might also want to consider. Regular rate to buy United miles is $35.00 per 1,000 miles.

Buy 5,000 – 29,000 miles | Get 40% bonus miles (rate drops to $25.00 per 1,000 miles; $26.88 per 1,000 miles after 7.5% tax.)

Buy 30,000 – 94,000 miles | Get 85% bonus miles (rate drops to $18.92 per 1,000 miles = $20.34 per 1,000 miles after 7.5% tax.)

  1. 10,000 Radisson points to 1,950 United miles seems like a terrible deal to me. I value RR at 0.3 cents per point, and United around 1.2 cents per point. So you are redeeming $30 of Radisson points for $23 of United points.

  2. @ORD-TGU – See no reason why promotions would not stack. Radisson simply offering a bonus miles exchange rate for United and United offering a separate bonus on hotel points to miles transfers from any participating hotel program.

@Kurt – good deal for people with Radisson Rewards points who find little use for them and would prefer United miles. I rarely value airline miles transfers over the value I find with hotel points.
