IHG Global Sale ending Sep 24 now ends Oct 8

IHG launched a Stay in the Moment global sale for at least 25% rate discount on August 22, 2019 requiring booking by Sep 24 for stays from Aug 25, 2019 to March 31, 2020. This offer is now extended for two more weeks through October 8, 2019.

I found hotel rates with this IHG sale offered some good deals for Amsterdam and Krakow where I will be traveling later this year. Originally my hotel stay preference was IHG hotels in Amsterdam and Krakow due to the highly competitive rates I found with Holiday Inn Express Amsterdam City Hall at $110 after tax and Hotel Indigo Krakow at $98 per night for my travel dates. Those are great deals for those hotels. I have stayed at both properties in 2019.

HIX Amsterdam City Hall cost 20,000 points per night when I booked my hotel reward stay for Jan 2019, however, IHG Rewards Club raised the reward rate to 35,000 points in late 2018 within a few weeks of my previous booking. Hotel Indigo Krakow is 30,000 points per night. Both of these hotels were better deals paying the rates for the dates I wanted.

Earlier this week I wrote an article on how I was moving my loyalty to Le Club Accorhotels for my Amsterdam and Krakow trip to take advantage of their offer for 6,000 bonus points with 3 two-night stays by January 2020.

The catch with Accor Hotels is my stays had to be booked by Sep 27 for the promotional offer of 6,000 bonus points. Le Club Accorhotels points have a fixed value where 2,000 points = 40 EUR hotel payment credit. My $600 in hotel spend will earn a rebate of 120 EUR/$132 and $600 in hotel spend will earn close to 2,000 more points for a potential 160 EUR/$175 rebate.

I plopped down $600 for six hotel nights at three Accor hotels. Next summer those Accor points will come in handy on future Europe trips. Accor Hotels is Europe’s largest hotel chain by far.

When I checked IHG rates for Amsterdam and Krakow today, I was surprised to see IHG hotel rates were similar to rates earlier this week.

The IHG hotel rates page today is still shows the Stay in the Moment sale banner and still shows *Book by September 24, 2019. I was curious why room rates today on September 25 are still the same room rates I saw yesterday for these two Amsterdam hotels.

I clicked on the IHG banner ad to find this new IHG page showing the sale now extends through October 8, 2019.

Bottom line is IHG had me hooked with their good sale rates, but IHG Rewards Club lost me with my lousy fall 2019 Accelerate offer.
