Ventana Big Sur an Alila Resort $700 per night glamping rates

Glamping always seemed to me a pretentious term, yet Ventana Big Sur, an Alila Resort and hotel member of World of Hyatt, embraces the concept with $700 to $800 per night glamping rooms in the outdoors of Monterey County. For a couple hundred dollars more you can stay in an actual hotel room.

Two years ago Ventana Inn reopened after a multi-million renovation during the same period when the resort was inaccessible for eight months due to a washed out bridge to the north and a massive landslide to the south blocking Highway 1. The property rebranded from Joie de Vivre to Alila Resorts. Both brands are now part of World of Hyatt.

When the hotel reopened in 2017, glamping sites were advertised as starting at $325 per night. Good luck finding that rate in 2019.

I walked around and photographed the hotel in 2012 when it was Ventana Inn and affiliated with Joie de Vivre hotels.

Initially I checked room rates at Ventana Big Sur in research on the new brands promotion for earning 2,000 bonus points for your first hotel stay in four new Hyatt brands: Joie de Vivre, Destination, Thompson and Alila. Members also earn a free category 1-4 hotel reward night for stays at all four different brands by December 31, 2019. No promotion registration needed for this offer.

Looks like the only way I might possibly pick up 2,000 points staying at an Alila Resort with a stay at one of their other properties in Asia.

Funny. Even with transportation, Kuala Lumpur could be cheaper. Still, nice photos/review of Ventana Big Sur.

Ventana Big Sur is category 7 at 30,000 points per night.
