Car rental companies are starting to post ‘drive one way to Florida’ discount rates. These deals are not as great a discount as spring season discounts for driving one way out of Florida and starting destinations are generally limited to airports in the mid-Atlantic states from Virginia north to Pennsylvania, New York and New England states. Charleston, West Virginia is the westernmost airport I located discount rates from about $19 to $39 per day all-in for car types from economy to SUV.
Destination airports in Florida are available all across the state from Panama City in the Florida panhandle to Key West. Rental rates are primarily dependent on starting airport and travel dates with little difference in rates seen for any destination airport in Florida.
A rental car one way to Florida can be a family road trip bargain given a vehicle can carry four or five passengers 1,000 to 2,000 miles for a week at a cost of $130 to $300 for the rental and about $100 to $250 in gas, depending on distance. Of course there are lodging expenses and you need to get back out of Florida. A cheap one way flight will likely get you back again.
Cheap rates are a good reason for a road trip where you can pick and choose the attractions you want to see along the way to Florida.
