Review Hotel Indigo Krakow 3 nights for $305

My third stay at Hotel Indigo Krakow in past three years was a good value deal using an IHG Europe Hertz 30% off partner rate in May 2019. The nightly rate dropped from $140 to $101.50 for three nights Friday to Monday.

Three nights at Hotel Indigo Krakow also put me 80% through my IHG Rewards Club Accelerate Summer 2019 promotion requiring a Points & Cash stay (Prague Holiday Inn Congress Centre 10,000 points + $39), 4 IHG nights and two different brands.  A $95 stay at Holiday Inn Warsaw the following week completed the remaining tasks for 37,800 bonus points.

Hotel Indigo Krakow

Hotel Indigo Krakow is one of my favorite hotels in the city for several reasons. Close proximity to the train station is one of the big bonuses. From Krakow Airport the train ticket is 9 PLN / $2.38 to reach city center in about 20 minutes. From the train station the hotel is less than ten minutes walk, out the shopping mall and two blocks more.

Two other advantages in the location of Hotel Indigo Krakow is Old Town is two blocks away and Stary Kleparz market is adjacent to the hotel for all kinds of fresh fruit and food. Carrefour supermarket and around one hundred retail shops are back at the Galeria Krakowska mall for any other needs.

Two previous reviews of Hotel Indigo Krakow cover most aspects of the hotel itself with photos of two different room types. Our room this stay #103 in same location one floor down from #203 room stay, where we stayed summer 2018, so little new room information to add.

I can comment on the fact that the air conditioner worked great on a hot day around 90F when drinking beer in a garden pub of Kazimierz was simply not enjoyable. We ended up back in our hotel room to watch Women’s World Cup.

One of the best features of being in room 103 is using the stairs rather than waiting for the tiny glass elevator.

At check-in I was given a voucher for two drinks as an IHG Rewards Club Platinum amenity. We drank beer in the bar one night.

There are some neighborhood eateries and attractions around Hotel Indigo Krakow closer than Old Town that are new to me on this trip.

TU Lunch Bar Spinach stuffed potato pancakes 14 PLN

Hotel Indigo Krakow has a lovely breakfast buffet and restaurant, but if you don’t want to spend 60 PLN per person, then TU Lunch Bar is a 2-minute walk on the way to Galeria Krakowski mall with cheap eats for breakfast at 10 PLN and many other meals under 20 PLN.

My meal was loaded with pork chunks layered between three potato patties. TU Lunch Bar won’t win any gourmet dining awards, but when you want food, this place serves made to order hot food quickly at a good price for Krakow restaurants. This was my breakfast place each day.

There are two TU Lunch Bar locations (Facebook page) on either side of the train station.

The typical direction to walk from Hotel Indigo is toward the Barbican and Old Town Krakow.

On our stay this trip I decided to check out what is in the other direction. Basically there are some nice finds for a couple of pubs, an Indian food and Korean food restaurants on the two blocks of Warszawska, north of St. Florian’s Basilica.

Walking left at St. Florian’s Basilica rather than right toward Old Town offers some ethnic food choices for a quick bite. St. Florian’s Basilica was the church where Pope John Paul II started his career.

What distinguishes these pubs from most other pubs you will find in Old Town or Kazimierz is their student clientele due to proximity to Krakow Polytechnical University on the next block north. In fact, I found myself walking for about 20 minutes around the perimeter of the university gated fence after walking north past the pubs alongside a major traffic thoroughfare around Old Town.

Basically I learned from my outing there is little reason to venture past the pubs and restaurants north along Warszawa Street. 20 minutes of walking took me to Nowy Kleparz, another outdoor market on the west side of Krakow Old Town.

Stary Kleparz Krakow

No reason to walk a mile to find Nowy Kleparz market when Stary Kleparz is next to Hotel Indigo Krakow for a large selection of fresh fruits, vegetables and all kinds of other cheap eats and retail items. This is a great place to shop. I loaded up on fresh fruit, breads, cheese and meats that kept us filled for days as we traveled to Warsaw and Torun from Krakow.

Bring cash to Stary Kleparz and walk away with loads of food and other items for cheap. Many items available at Stary Kleparz are cheaper than mall stores or Old Town store prices.

All in all this was another lucrative stay at Hotel Indigo Krakow, a place where I have earned tens of thousands of IHG Rewards CLub points from different Accelerate promotions over the past three years.

On average, I have paid around $100 per night on all three stays. Given this hotel is 30,000 IHG points for a reward night, my preference has been to pay each stay and earn loads of points.

Puro Kazmierz is the number one place to stay in Krakow these days.

@PB – Looks like a reasonable place to stay. I have not checked out New Jewish Cemetery yet. Kelley spotted an apartment in Kazimierz she would like to stay at on a future trip.

How do you get the Europe Hertz partner rate?

That looks a charming place to stay. The photos and the food are giving me real travel goals to plan a trip soon to Krakow and stay here.
