World of Hyatt has a Buy Points promotion for 40% bonus points through August 27, 2019. When you buy 5,000 or more points you receive 40% bonus points. The price drops from the regular $24 per 1,000 points to $17.15. The other advantage to this promotion is bonus points do not count against the maximum annual points purchase of 55,000 points, thereby increasing the amount of points you can buy up to 77,000 points with this offer.
Hyatt points at $17.15 per 1,000 points will offer room night savings at some hotels, but I don’t find this offer compelling. Granted $17.15 is about as low as Hyatt sells its points during the year with promotional rate offers. The problem for me, aside from category 1 and category 2 hotels at 5,000 points and 8,000 points per night, buying points still means paying $206 per night for a category 3 hotel. That is far more than I typically pay for hotel rooms.
There are more value opportunities when buying points for upgrades to Club level and suites.
