SFO to Rome $495 round trip, only $456 with 200 TAP Portugal miles

TAP Portugal has loaded low fall one way fares for USA to Europe travel via Lisbon. Beginning in October 2019 San Francisco to Rome one way is $243 one way with possibility of staying nearly 21 hours in Lisbon between flights or as little as one hour.

One way flights from Rome to SFO price around $250 one way.

Tap Portugal has a promotion offering a discount of $24 on SFO-FCO and 20 EUR ($22.79) on FCO-SFO tickets reducing the round trip ticket price to $456 when you redeem 100 TAP Portugal miles per ticket.

If like me, you have no TAP Portugal miles, you can acquire TP miles by several hotel points methods including these below.

Booking.com (Earn 2 TAP Miles&Go miles for every €1 in spend)

IHG Rewards Club 10,000 points = 2,000 miles.

Marriott Bonvoy 3,000 points = 1,000 miles.

TAP Portugal  San Francisco SFO – Lisbon LIS (overnight layover) – Rome FCO one way

$221.65 + 100 miles or $245.65   Sat Oct 5, 2019

Depart Sat Oct 5, stay 22 hours Lisbon, Arrive Rome Mon Oct 7

Flying on a short layover saves $2.00.

Bonvoy 3,000 points = 1,000 miles.

TAP Portugal  Rome FCO – Lisbon LIS (overnight layover) – San Francisco SFO

€207.87 + 100 TP miles / $236.88 + 100 TP miles or  €227.87 / $259.67 one way  Sun Oct 13

There are cheaper ticket prices through online travel agency for some of these flights if you do not have Tap Portugal miles for the promotion discount.

Booking.com  TAP Portugal  Rome FCO – Lisbon LIS (overnight layover) – San Francisco SFO

$250.60 one way  Sun Oct 13

Even though these cheap TAp Portugal economy O code tickets do not earn miles, I am considering booking TAP Portugal one way flights for fall travel to take advantage of the 100 TP miles discount rate. I have Star Alliance Gold status through Aegean Airlines and will be able to access airport lounges in SFO, Lisbon and Rome.

There are also slightly higher TAP Portugal ticket prices SFO to Venice, Amsterdam and Paris at $250-$275 one way.
