Hôtel-Dieu de Lyon was a 15th century hospital that only ceased operations in 2010. The building site has been a refuge for weary travelers and clergy for 800 years and is a listed UNESCO World Heritage Site. 17th and 18th century construction created the grand structure existing today and years of renovation created the recently opened InterContinental Lyon – Hotel Dieu. The hotel has 144 guest rooms with 34 suites, including 28 duplex suites, many featuring large vertical windows with views to the Rhone River.

Lyon, France made Lonely Planet’s Best Places in Europe 2019. Women’s World Cup Soccer 2019 semi-finals and finals will be held in July at Parc Olympique Lyonnaise in a suburb of Lyon.

I spent an hour in Lyon in October 2015 when I was changing trains from Clermont-Ferrand, France for Geneva, Switzerland. Not long in Lyon, but long enough for a kiss.
