A major development has happened just in time for the Daily Getaways sale of Choice Privileges points today. Since at least yesterday there is no availability for reward nights using Choice Privileges points at any of the 194 hotels in Nordic Choice Hotels covering hotels in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. All Choice hotels in Japan are also currently showing no availability for reward nights.
The primary questions now are whether this is a temporary website booking issue or a major change in the Choice Privileges program?
A thread on FlyerTalk about this issue was started this morning.
Nordic Choice Hotels are an affiliate program of Choice Hotels. Choice Privileges members have been able to redeem points for Nordic Choice Hotels properties for years, however, to earn points on paid stays requires membership in Nordic Choice Club, a separate hotel loyalty program for Nordic Choice Hotels with its own earning points rules and different redemption levels for Nordic Choice Hotels. For many of the 194 hotels in Nordic Choice Hotels the redemption rate using Choice Privileges points was lower than using Nordic Choice Club points.
Fortunately I already have hotel reward nights booked in Sweden this summer using Choice Privileges points. And I hope this is a temporary website glitch and not a permanent program change.
I will be disappointed if Stockholm this summer turns out to be my last cheap Choice Privileges reward stay in Sweden.
