Radisson Rewards integrating into Jin Jiang loyalty program beginning summer 2019

Seven or eight years ago I researched the world’s major hotel chains to determine approximately how many hotels and rooms were in the top 10 global chains. There were the usual suspects like IHG, Hilton, Marriott, Accor, along with a hotel chain name entirely unfamiliar to me – Jin Jiang.

Jin Jiang International is a Chinese state-owned tourism and hospitality company. And in the past few months Jin Jiang has acquired over 90% of shares for Radisson Hotel Group. Jin Jiang is currently the world’s second largest hotel chain with more than 7,700 properties in 67 countries including Radisson brands and Louvre Hotels Group featuring hotel brands Golden Tulip, Tulip Inn, Metropole and Kyriad among its portfolio.

In the past three years Carlson Rezidor Hotels was acquired in 2016 by privately owned Chinese aviation company HNA, parent of Hainan Airlines. HNA went on an international buying spree acquiring 25% of Hilton Worldwide and a large share of Red Lion Hotels. High debt loads for HNA led the Chinese government to force asset sales in 2018 with HNA shedding Red Lion and Radisson and lots of news about the company unloading Hilton. As far as I can tell the Hilton Worldwide sale of shares never materialized. Little news of a Hilton sale has followed after the initial announcements of intent in April 2018.

Jin Jiang unified global loyalty program

Ownership generally has little effect on the consumer experience at hotels, unless it significantly impacts the hotel loyalty program. Just ask former SPG members who feel Bonvoyed in 2019.

Looks like Golden Tulip still operates its Flavours hotel loyalty program and Radisson Rewards is still in place. However, Jin Jiang has its own loyalty program and according to information from the Radisson Americas Conference in Miami two weeks ago, plans are in the works to begin integrating Radisson Rewards into a Jin Jiang global loyalty program as soon as this summer.

It will be interesting to see what changes occur in hotel loyalty points and benefits across the different hotel chains in Jin Jiang with integration into one worldwide loyalty program in coming years.

Don’t like the sound of this.

Will this be influencing your behavior? I’m curious because I have enough Radisson points that I’m concerned about getting stuck without value.

@ colleen — Radisson points have value?

LOL point taken (pun intended). That’s the problem and what’s created my too-hefty balance!

I have about 100,000 points in my Radisson Rewards account. Good chance I will use them this summer.

  • I stayed in a lot of Jinjiang Star hotels when I lived in China, their budget brand. Good budget price point and the tile floors much better than musty carpets at many Chinese hotels.

Radisson has lost many properties in the US. I don’t know the numbers, though checking something like Award Mapper for my stays, I regularly come across outdated Radisson entries that have reflagged.

Will be nice if Golden Tulip and others get added if at a reasonable rate.
