Basically double points promotions are hotel spend based offers. The more you spend, the better the promotion. The credit card component for 500 points on each weekend stay is an additional incentive for travelers.
Double points is a decent promotion, but nothing that gets me to book with a hotel chain when there are other better value offers available.
At least for the next month through April 14, Best Western Rewards has the promotion where there is outsized value in 2 stays earning a free night anywhere in USA, Canada or Caribbean. That is the kind of promotion where low spend hotel nights can earn a high value free reward night.
At least there is some bonus to staying with a Marriott brand earning double the base points – starting with your second stay. And an even sweeter deal if a Marriott credit card holder staying on a weekend night.
