Happy New Year 2019 fireworks video from Amsterdam

a city at night with fireworks

Amsterdam is a place where locals like their fireworks and take advantage of New Year’s Eve, the one time during the year when setting off fireworks is legal. Our high rise room in West Amsterdam at the Ramada Apollo Amsterdam offered a 180-degree view of the city from an elevation of about 180 feet. The view ranged from the canal rings of the old city and north Amsterdam across the Ij to the Schiphol Airport tower in the southwest. I estimate there were at least 100,000 sky explosions across the city during the evening.

My video shows what one minute in Amsterdam looked and sounded like to ring in the new year.

Happy New Year 2019 from Amsterdam.

We were over in the Holiday Inn in the RAI district – incredible amount to fireworks and didn’t really stop until 01.30!

    Thanks for posting!
So everyone/ every street basically just fired their own fireworks in a free for all fashion?

@Jay – free for all fireworks is what NYE is all about in Amsterdam. The noise is something else.

I prefer to be in a protected place with a view rather than outside during the spectacle.

While Rembrandtpark kept us separated from the bulk of the action filmed in the neighborhoods from the east side of the room, there were also loads of similar fireworks happening in the apartment blocks much closer to the hotel across the street to the west. We watched those from our windows on the south wall of the corner room.
