IHG Rewards Club has a 100% bonus points promotion through October 31, 2018 when you buy 30,000 to 100,000 points at $10 per 1,000 points. 100% bonus points drops the price to $5.00 per 1,000 points for 60,000 ($300) to 200,000 points ($1,000).
Maximum purchase is 200,000 points in a calendar year.
IHG Buy Points Bonuses
5,000 – 19,000 points = 40% bonus ($9.64 per 1,000 points after 100% bonus points added).
20,000 – 29,000 points = 60% bonus ($7.19 per 1,000 points)
30,000 – 100,000 points = 100% bonus ($5.00 per 1,000 points).
This can be a good price for points, especially for Pointbreaks hotels at 15,000 points per night. I redeemed 80,000 points for 6 nights in the most recent PointBreaks offer for hotel nights priced at $1,100. I can replace those 80,000 points for $400 with this sale.
In general though, I do not find many IHG hotels where there are good savings buying points for reward nights. I would not buy IHG points speculatively without having a specific good value hotel reward stay in mind.
