Marriott Auction ended with no bids for San Juan Marriott 2-night ocean view room

Last year I was at a party for the final night of the 2017 Marriott Omaha Business Council auction for Chirldren’s Miracle Network fundraiser. I borrowed a computer from the party host and successfully won three auction items for 9 hotel nights in Australia, Germany and Atlanta.

I am flying off to Atlanta next weekend for 3 nights in Atlanta that cost me $74 all-in.

Friday night, September 21, 2018, another party night with a different host when the 2018 Marriott Omaha Business Council auction ended. I decided not to bid this year and did not spend the party thinking about Marriott Hotels I might stay at over the next year for cheap.

On Saturday morning I checked the final bid prices for the 2018 fundraiser.

I was amazed to see the auction ended without a single bid for 2 nights in an ocean view room at San Juan Marriott Resort and Stellaris Casino.

I would have likely bid $10, if I had been online checking the auction at closing time.

Loyalty Traveler - Marriott Rewards MBC online auction good deals. On September 13, I posted an article about this auction with current bids.

Next year there will likely be another Marriott Omaha Business Council auction for Children’s Miracle Network. This is still one of the best value opportunities to pick up a great hotel discount stay if you happen to be around one of these cities.

Nothing overseas such as in Aisa and MidEast for this year?

reason why no one bid for san juan was because the starting bid was priced at $325.

by the way, if you won a bid, what happens? do they charge your credit card automatically or is there an action that the bidder has to make to finalize the purchase?

  • Ric Garrido September 24, 2018

That explains it. I did not know there were any minimum bids for this auction.

  • DaveDC September 24, 2018

A key reason for the low bids is because of miscommunication from the Marriott Omaha Business Council. When I received the email announcing the auction, it stated that the auction would end at 11:59 pm Central Time on Friday. Unfortunately, that was a typo and the auction actually ended at 11:59 am – 12 hours earlier than I expected. I had several hotels I was going to bid on Friday evening, but the auction was already closed by the time I attempted to bid.

This was botched big time. As DaveDC said, it ended 12 hours early. I went to bid Friday night and it was over…. shame as I’m sure many others were looking to bid Friday night—the charity would have earned more had it not been botched.

@Andrew – in past years I paid for my winning bids when I received email requesting auction payment. Usually within couple days of auction close.

How do I get on the mailing list to be notified of such auctions?
    Thanks

  • Ric Garrido September 30, 2018

People who have registered for auction in past years receive notification. I received an email.

Otherwise just keep an eye out.

Since I have bid in this annual auction for several years now, I tend to search for it beginning in September. Auction date is generally sometime between Sep and Dec.

2014 was a Dec auction, 2017 was October, 2018 in Sep.
