Hilton Honors has a special offer selling 80,000 points for $400 or 160,000 points for $800. Terms state this sale has a limit of 3,500 sets of 40,000 points with 100% bonus points.
The sale will last through September 20 or until all 3,500 sets of points are sold.
The price to buy Hilton Honors points is reduced from $10.00 per 1,000 points to $5.00 per 1,000 points. The annual purchase limit of 80,000 points per member is waived for this sale.
I interpret terms of sale as meaning someone who pays $800 for 160,000 points purchases 2 of the 3,500 sets of points for sale.
This looks like a good value sale for my travel since I have redeemed 50,000 points in the past month for 8 hotel nights, equivalent to $250 in points with this sale, for properties costing 5,000 and 10,000 points per reward night. I received a deep discount on hotel stays by redeeming $250 in points for $750 in room rates.
I can try and replicate those kind of room rate savings for $1,200 in room nights with 80,000 points purchased for $400.
My travel and need for hotel rooms in Poland, Romania and Bakersfield, California takes me to places where there are a selection of hotels at 5,000 and 10,000 points per night. It is hard to find a better deal than cheap Hilton reward nights at $25 or $50 per night, even in those places.
Aside from the low category 5,000 and 10,000 point hotels and a few high-end properties, there are probably not a lot of other Hilton brand hotels where the hotel rate savings will be worth holding onto Hilton points for a period of time if you do not have a specific plan in mind for their use.
Here are my hotel reviews of Hampton Inn Krakow and the new Hampton Inn Oswiecim, Poland in the town with Auschwitz. Both hotels have reward nights frequently at 10,000 points per night.
Closer to home is Hampton Inn Bakersfield/Highway 58 at 10,000 points per reward night. This is a great stopover hotel between Monterey/SF Bay area for travelers driving 500 miles between Las Vegas and the California central coast.
