Choice Privileges 40% bonus points is good value buy opportunity

Choice Privileges points provide some of the best value hotel stay opportunities I find each year. Through September 13, Choice Privileges points offer 40% bonus points when you purchase 5,000 to 50,000 points dropping the rate to $7.86 per 1,000 points from the regular $11.00 per 1,000 points purchase rate. Choice Privileges members can buy up to 70,000 points for $550 through this sale.

While Choice Hotels are generally not the finest hotel option I could pick for my travel destinations, their hotels are frequently the best value option for places I travel.

Over the summer I used Choice Privileges to stay in

  • Copenhagen, Denmark 20,000 points per night at Skt. Petri, Ascend Collection when room rates were $736usd per night;
  • Vienna, Austria for 9,600 points per night at Star Inn Schonbrunn when room rates were $127usd.
  • Ceske Budjovice, Czech Republic at the Clarion Congress in a booked suite using 9,500 points per night when room rate was $183usd.
  • Prague, Czech Republic at Clarion Prague City for 16,000 points when room rates were $118 per night. Note: this room would have been the equivalent of $125.76 if I had paid $7.86 per 1,000 points through this 40% bonus points sale. I purchased 200,000+ Choice Privileges points in April 2018 during Daily Getaways sales paying $5.00 per 1,000 points, so my equivalent rate was only $80. This hotel is generally priced 10,000 to 12,000 points (Sep 16-Nov 30) and 8,000 points (Dec 1-Jan 31, 2019).

Upcoming Choice Privileges stays:

Most of my Choice Privileges points are redeemed for hotels in Europe. Next month I have stays in London planned using Choice Privileges points for discount room nights.

Atlanta, Georgia – I needed one additional hotel night in Atlanta for an upcoming trip where the Marriott hotels I will stay average $200 per night, although my Marriott room rate averaged only $31 per night (a reason why I love hotel stay auctions).

Choice Privileges points once again looked to be the best value deal I found for one reward night in Atlanta.

Atlanta hotels at 6,000 and 8,000 points are $47.16 to $62.88 with this buy points sale.

An important feature to know about Choice Privileges points is some hotels offer upgraded rooms at standard reward point levels.

$105 room rate at Clarion Inn & Suites Downtown is a basic room at the member advance purchase nonrefundable rate and totals $126.75 after tax.

However, there is also the option to book a Clarion Atlanta Downtown suite for 8,000 points.

Reward room choices include suites.

Total room rate for a flexible rate booking is $160.56 after tax for the same room type and cancellation policy as an 8,000 points reward night through Choice Privileges.

The current 40% bonus points Choice Privileges Buy Points promotion through September 13 allows a member to book this Clarion Suites Atlanta Downtown $160.56 room as a reward night for 8,000 points at a total cost of $63 per night.

Choice Privileges points offer great value in many hotels worldwide.

Hi Ric. I enjoy your blog very much! I began using Choice Privileges after reading your blog, and was wondering if you might be able to answer a question about the program that Choice has been unable to adequately answer for me.

In May/June 2018, my husband and I stayed at the Denmark Clarion Airport from May 30-June 3rd and again from June 11-June 12. I utilized points that I had purchased from the Daily Getaways sale. I reserved the rooms through Choice not Nordic Choice.

Upon our return and reviewing my account, only a 1 night stayed showed. I emailed info regarding the stay, confirmation number, receipts, etc. to have them correct it. In short, I have called and emailed at least 10 times, and have been unable to resolve the problem – getting 4 nights stayed to show up instead of 1.

Well, today after being on hold for over 35-40 minutes, the customer service person came back to tell me that the 1 night showing is a mistake, that stays in Denmark are not a part of the program and do not count for nights stayed. Personally, I found it hard to believe, but wanted to check with you to see if you know if this is true, and if not true, who or where I might call to get this resolved.

Thank you in advance for you assistance and reading this.

    Have a good day,
    Bee

    Hi Bee,

I have always received elite nights credit for my stays in Scandinavia.

Yet, I looked over my account to see that I did not receive elite night credit for my stay in Copenhagen in June.

There might have been a rule change, I will need to follow up on that issue and find out.

Any other readers missing elite night credit from Choice Privileges reward stays in Denmark, Norway and Sweden?
