Marriott Rewards PointSavers more availability, less savings

Marriott Rewards PointSavers is a program feature that has been in place for years, but highly limited availability made it a minor hotel discount savings when you happened to be in a handful of places around the world offering a PointSavers rate during limited dates.

I had not looked into the new Marriott Rewards PointSavers rates until I noticed some odd looking reward night redemption rates in Atlanta, Georgia this month.

Good news! Several Atlanta area hotels offer PointSavers rates in September 2018.

Bad news! Marriott Rewards PointSavers discount rates in the new August 2018 program no longer offer reward nights at one hotel category lower as the discount rate.

Marriott Rewards PointSavers discount rate for 2018 is now:

  • 1,500 points discount for category 1-3 hotels.
  • 2,500 points discount for category 4-5 hotels.
  • 5,000 points discount for category 6-8 hotels.

In 2019 this will change again when peak and off-peak rates are introduced.

I am surprised that Marriott is asking to kind of re-install my booking I did before merger.
I had paid 30000 pts for a booking at the rate of 10000/night for 3 nights as per earlier redemption rate. Now when I view my booking, it says the price is 52500 at the rate of 17500/night and I need to get the redemption certificate issued. If I don’t do it, the certificate will be requested a week before the stay automatically to keep the booking intact. Please advise for any inputs, since it doesn’t seem normal for a confirmed booking.
