Best Western Rewards came out on top for best value points reward nights when I considered booking three hotel nights in Rome for June 2018. Best Western has 14 hotels in the city of Rome, one of the largest collection of hotels for Rome, Italy among major chains with loyalty points programs. 12 of these hotels are what I would classify as center city hotels and nearly all these hotels are within 5 minutes walk of a Rome Metro station.
Best Western Artdeco Hotel at 20,000 points or 152eur/$187usd per night flexible rate looked to be the best combination of lower points reward nights with a city center location close to Termini Station. The advance purchase rate in mid-April was 127eur/$149.
We arrived at Termini Station by train from Rome Ciampino Airport CIA and departed Termini Station for Fiumicino Airport FCO two nights later for Best Western Rome Airport in Fiumicino.
Best Western Artdeco Hotel is about 15 minutes walk from Termini Station or 5 minutes walk from Castro Pretorio Metro Station on the Metro B line. Termini Station, Rome’s main transportation center, is the connection point between Metro A and Metro B lines in Rome.
Three other Best Western Hotels are in the vicinity of Roma Termini Station:
-
Best Western Premier Collection Hotel Canada 32,000 points or 131eur/$153usd nonrefundable rate.
-
Best Western Premier Hotel Royal Santina 28,000 points or 149eur/$174usd nonrefundable rate.
-
Best Western Plus Hotel Universo 28,000 points or 132eur/$154usd nonrefundable rate.
- Rates shown from mid-April 2018 when I booked BW Artdeco Hotel using points.
Best Western Artdeco at 20,000 points offered an upgraded room type, Comfort King Bed for points (127eur/$149 nonrefundable rate) compared to the lowest category room Classic Double Bed (110eur/$129 nonrefundable rate).
Best Western Rewards points nights booking tip:Â I try to check actual room types available for all potential Best Western hotels with reward availability in the city I am visiting. Some hotels offer upgraded room types at standard reward prices. Even suites for points are offered at some hotels in different times of the year.
I value 20,000 Best Western Rewards points at $110 based on the lowest purchase price I saw this past year during April 2018 Daily Getaways sales.
We could have purchased 100,000 Best Western Rewards points at $5.50 per 1,000 points in April, but I received my points through Diners Club Rewards points transfers, where 1,250 DCR points = 3,300 Best Western Rewards points.
Exquisite furnishings and high ceilings made the room instantly likeable to us.
Bathroom Design Fail
When you are using a hotel room for three days some aspects in room design may become an inconvenience. Every time I used the toilet for three days in room 108 I wondered who came up with the idea to place the toilet paper dispenser on the opposite wall from the toilet.
One of my unfounded concerns about our stay was construction scaffolding outside our window. There were no workers outside during the three days we were at the hotel.
Wooden shutters covered windows inside room. Windows opened completely with no screen when we wanted to let city sounds inside the room. The surrounding streets were relatively quiet on a weekend. Via Palestro was on Monday had a much busier pace with vehicles, but a farmer’s market on Via Montebello kept most traffic off that street.
Interior design features of public spaces at Best Western Artdeco Hotel Rome display Art Deco style.
Best Western Artdeco Hotel in Rome is an easy to access location from Rome Termini Station and Castro Pretorio B-line Metro Station. Castro Pretorio is five minutes walk. Termini Station is 15 minutes walk.
There are several restaurants nearby on Via Montebello. We primarily used The Good Fellas Pub for World Cup evening matches, beer, pizza and pasta. Monday revealed a Via Montebello street market.
Pam Local, a mid-size grocery store is two blocks away on Via San Martino della Battaglia near Castro Pretoria Metro Station. We joked about paying 1.50eur for 3 toilet paper rolls to keep within reach on the bathroom window sill. Next time?
All in all, Best Western Artdeco Hotel is a place I would not hesitate to stay again. This hotel seemed to be a better deal for late June than I saw through any other major chain for a city center hotel using loyalty points. We thought the location around Termini Station was convenient for getting in and out of the city and sightseeing Rome.
