Best Western Rewards, Choice Privileges and Wyndham Rewards have a competitive advantage to other major hotel loyalty programs like Hilton Honors, IHG Rewards Club and Marriott Rewards in that these programs all offer upgraded hotel rooms for points at standard reward rates for some hotels.
The main point to know is some hotels offer higher room categories at standard reward rates. There are more than 4,000 Best Western branded hotels worldwide.
In my experience of the past few years, the hotels offering higher category rooms generally offer these rooms throughout the year. Most hotels do not offer upgraded rooms at standard reward rates. The hotels I know are mostly in places I have considered traveling.
For example, this summer I am staying in Rome. I checked each of more than a dozen Best Western hotels in Rome and chose a hotel where I found an upgraded room type. The hotel I booked offered an entry level room at 110EUR per night for points and also a 152 EUR higher category room for the same number of points. I booked the 152 EUR per night room.

One thing to keep in mind with Best Western Rewards points is there are a significant number of hotels changing brands during the course of the year. About half of all Best Western hotel stays I had in past ten years are hotels no longer in Best Western chain.
Two of my favorite Best Western hotels I visited in 2017 were Best Western Hotel Bonum, Gdansk and Best Western Prague Kinsky Garden. I planned to stay at both of these hotels later in 2017 on high value reward nights to find they left Best Western by the time I wanted to book reward nights.
