Radisson Rewards launched their Dream Deals summer promotion for room rates up to 30% off and 5,000 bonus points per stay for prepaid special rate bookings made using this offer from May 30 and July 1 for stays June 25 to Sep 2. Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden stays are eligible from June 12.
There is a USA/Canada component to this offer, but only for stays June 1-30.
I have been watching hotel rates in a few European cities for the past month and I am not impressed with the discount rate on prepaid Dream Deals offer compared to advance purchase rates previously available. Most hotels I have had my eye on only dropped a couple dollars compared to previous rates. The rate drop may be more a currency exchange rate factor than a Dream Deals room rate discount. The U.S. Dollar this week is at its highest value of 2018 for many European currencies.
One Ireland hotel and one Austrian hotel I checked showed a Dream Deals rate higher than other available prepaid rates.
Park Inn Linz, Austria has a Weekend special rate at $125USD per night with flexible cancellation compared to $138 per night for nonrefundable Dream Deals. All the value of 5,000 bonus points per stay is lost in higher rate. Plus, Dream Deals is $7 per night more than a regular advance purchase rate.
Seven days ago this hotel was available for $126USD advance purchase rate.
I can’t evaluate the USA rate discounts with Dream Deals since I was not checking rates at any USA hotels recently.
Basically, it looks like this offer is a simple trade-off for 5,000 bonus points, if you book a nonrefundable Dream Deals advance purchase rate.
5,000 Radisson Rewards points have about $20 redemption value for most hotels. I tend to shy away from advance purchase rates unless I am 99% sure my plans won’t change.
One of the strengths of the old Club Carlson promotions were offers that did not require prepaid rates. In winter 2017, I earned 50,000 bonus points for 8 nights stayed and summer 2017 I earned 2 Free Friday nights after 4 hotel stays, valid at any Radisson brand hotel worldwide.
Advance purchase, nonrefundable rates is a Dream Deals breaker for me.
