Savannah, Georgia has two new Starwood Hotels for summer 2018. Perry Lane Hotel, a Luxury Collection Hotel opened this week. The hotel enters SPG as a category 5 at 12,000 points per night. Of course, this will change in the new Marriott Rewards program coming August 1.
The Alida, Savannah, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel is scheduled to open August 15, 2018. It is also currently listed as a category 5 hotel for 12,000 points.
These are great additions for Savannah, a city with five Marriott brand hotels in the historic Savannah area, but only one Starwood Hotel for the past few years.
Westin Savannah Riverfront is isolated on the opposite of the river from historic Savannah.
These two new Starwood hotels are in good locations for touring historic Savannah. Westin Savannah is seen on Google Maps on opposite side of river.
I just got back from Savannah last week where I attended a design conference. The talk of the town were residents who told us that the US Department of the Interior (the agency that regulates historic districts-Savannah’s is the largest in the US) have told them that they had better knock off developing so many hotels-and especially the ones of designs inappropriate to the historic district.
Since I did a lot of walking around for days, I have to say that I agree. Some of the hotels that have gone up are pretty sub-par. Word to the wise. I imagine they will have a stroke when they see the Alida.
Interesting comment.
I was in Savannah in 2014 and 2015 and checked out most of the chain hotels. Newly opened hotels by the river were historical brick exterior design with modern building interiors.
