Hilton Honors Double Points May 1-August 31, 2018 is the global promotion for Hilton brand stays. Hampton Inn hotels in China are not participating. This offer provides 20 points per $1 for most hotel stays.
How is the Double Points Promotion earn rate calculated?
For every $1 spent,
- You’ll get 10 Base Points (5 Base Points at Home2 Suites by Hilton and Tru by Hilton)
- An additional 10 Bonus Points with this promotion, (5 Bonus Points at Home2 Suites by Hilton and Tru by Hilton), and
- Hilton Honors Elite Tier Bonus for Silver, Gold and Diamond Members,(calculated off of the Base Points earned).
I have two summer hotel stays in Poland booked with Hilton for 36,000 points.
Hilton is currently selling points for $5 per 1,000 through June 7. The price for these two hotel stays is $180 to replace 36,000 points I redeemed.
I could change these hotel stays to flexible cancellation paid stays for $210 and earn double points.
Assume $190 of $210 is points earning, then I would earn 3,800 points with a value of $19. I don’t have elite status with Hilton at the moment.
As long as I don’t think I will need more than 160,000 Hilton Honors points, the maximum amount I can buy in 2018, then booking a paid stay offers no real advantage to sticking with reward nights using points.
I can spend $210 in cash to pay for rooms and earn 3,800 points or spend $180 in cash for points to book reward stays. Since I do not frequent Hilton brand hotels in my travels and there are many opportunities to buy Hilton points at $5/1,000 points, I’ll stick with points reservations rather than double points for my stays.
